I thought being rejected by the boy you liked in high school was the end of the world. Wow, was I completely wrong. As much as it's beautiful watching your baby's face light up when her daddy walks into a room; at some point it just becomes out right annoying!!!! I think I am changing my name to Dada. Better yet; I am going to start believing that Brams thinks my name is Dada. That is the only explanation i can think of!
There is nothing more heart breaking than when Greg needs me to hold her so he can do something; and she immediately starts crying. She doesn't even know what a mean mom i am yet! I was hoping the rejection wouldn't start until I began rockin' out the mom jeans and permed short frosted hairdo in about 12 years.
Ugh.

Yeah! A new post! I am not sure you'll find this encouraging, but Lily JUST starting saying "Mama" at 16 months. And it was the same, James would walk in the room and she'd say "Hi, Daddy!". What? Huh???
ReplyDeleteI rationalized it as saying I'll spend the next 15 years of my life wishing they'd forget my name. I'll let you know if it's any different with little boys.
I didn't get a "mama" for a looooong time with any of the kids - definitely older than one - even though they did prefer me -- to an extreme -- because I was home all the time. So my husband feels your pain. All 3 of them would cry when he went in in the middle of the night, only settling for me. Emery still -- at 29 months! -- sometimes gets pissed off when he gets her in the morning or goes in at night. Thankfully, it's getting better, but the cries of "Noooooo Daddy, MAMA do it" still ring out regularly. But he said today that he went to get her when she woke up (after 6 days out of town) and she lit up and grinned & gave him huge hugs and snuggled with him all morning. It *does* get better.
ReplyDeleteTrust me when I say it's hard on the other side, too, and I've wanted to change my name to daddy just to escape the feeling that I am always the go-to. But also know that soon she will come around & know that you are awesome too, and you'll hear "mamamamamamamamamamaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" so much you'll want to scream ;)
